SUMMARY:Web-Talk: Müssen wir zu viel? Selbstdatenschutz und Plattformverantwortlichkeit
DESCRIPTION:Im WebTalk des Digital Autonomy Hubs am 22. März 2023 wurde die Frage diskutiert\, inwieweit die Verantwortung für die eigenen Daten noch dem Individuum überlassen werden kann oder ob nicht Online-Plattformen stärker in die Pflicht genommen werden müssen. \nDabei stellte Corinna Balkow (wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Universität Osnabrück) den Ansatz für mehr Transparenz und Bildung von Nutzenden aus unserem SIMPORT-Projekt vor. Ein souveräner Umgang mit den eigenen ortsbezogenen Informationen wird im Projekt durch Visualisierung und Aufklärung darüber\, welche Daten geteilt werden\, erforscht. Corinna Balkow befasst sich dabei mit dem Ethics-by-Design-Ansatz\, der darauf abzielt\, ethische Fragen während des gesamten Designprozesses zu berücksichtigen. \nDer gesamte Talk ist auf YouTube zu finden! \n

DESCRIPTION:Auf Basis des Standortverlaufs eines Smartphones können tiefe Rückschlüsse auf das Leben einer Person gezogen werden. Sie stellen damit ein unterschätztes Risiko für die persönliche Privatsphäre dar. Nutzer:innen sind sich oft nicht bewusst\, dass Smartphones in der Regel diese Informationen  an Apps und damit an Unternehmen weitergeben. Dabei werden Nutzende selten klar und verständlich über mögliche Risiken aufgeklärt. Zusätzlich bieten die wenigsten Apps detaillierte und intuitive Kontrollmöglichkeiten. \nZiel dieses Design-Workshops ist es\, die Bedürfnisse der Nutzer:innen in Bezug auf die Kontrolle von persönlichen Standortinformationen zu verstehen. Im Rahmen des Simport-Projekts wird eine Lernanwendung entwickelt\, die die Nutzer:innen bei der Erkundung persönlicher Standortinformationen unterstützt und das für eine informierte Zustimmung erforderliche Bewusstsein schafft. \nIm Januar 2022 sind zwei Vor-Ort Workshops in englischer und deutscher Sprache in Münster geplant\, die den Covid-19-Vorschriften folgen und zwei Online-Versionen\, um Teilnehmende zu unterstützen\, die nicht in Münster wohnen: \n21. Januar 2022 (16 – 19 Uhr\, MESZ) – Englisch (Online) \n22. Januar 2022 (10 – 13 Uhr MESZ) – Englisch (Präsenz REACH Münster) \n28. Januar 2022 (14 – 17 Uhr\, MESZ) – Deutsch (Online) \n29. Januar 2022 (10 – 13 Uhr\, MESZ) – Deutsch (Präsenz\, REACH\, Münster) ABGESAGT  \n \n\n\n\nHinweis:\nDer Nachweis von 2G+ der Teilnehmenden der Workshops vor Ort ist erforderlich. Daher wird von jedem Teilnehmenden entweder ein Schnelltest innerhalb der letzten 24 Stunden oder ein PCR-Test innerhalb der letzten 48 Stunden verlangt. Aufgrund der Covid-19-Bestimmungen sind maximal 8 Personen in einem Raum zugelassen. Das REACH Euregio Start-up Center bietet geräumige Räume mit guten Lüftungsmöglichkeiten.\n\n\n \n\n \nFür die Design-Workshops werden den Teilnehmenden die notwendigen Werkzeuge an die Hand geben und sie in die Lage versetzen\, Optionen für die Kontrolle und Zustimmung zum Teilen von persönlichen Standortinformationen frei zu gestalten. \nDie Workshops werden etwa 3 Stunden dauern. Nach Beendigung des Workshops erhalten die Teilnehmer eine Zahlung von 20 Euro – für die Überweisung muss ein europäisches Bankkonto angegeben werden. Eine Umfrage wird durchgeführt\, um demografische Informationen (Geschlecht\, Alter\, Beruf usw.) zu erheben und den Wissensstand und die Perspektive zum Thema zu ermitteln. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Based on the location history of a smartphone\, deep conclusions can be drawn about a person’s life. They thus pose an underestimated risk to personal privacy. Users are often not aware that smartphones usually pass on this information to apps and to companies. Users are rarely informed clearly and comprehensibly about possible risks. In addition\, very few apps offer detailed and intuitive control options. \nThe aim of this design workshop is to understand the needs of users with regard to the control of personal location information. The Simport project will develop a learning application that supports users in exploring personal location information and creates the awareness needed for informed consent. \nTwo on-site workshops in English and German at the REACH Euregio Start-up Center in Münster\, following Covid 19 regulations\, and two online versions to support participants who do not live in Münster are planned on the following dates: \n21 January 2022 (16 – 19 h\, MESZ) – English (Online) \n22 January 2022 (10 – 13 h\, MESZ) – English (In person\, REACH\, Münster) \n28 January 2022 (14 – 17 h\, MESZ) – German (Online) \n29 January 2022 (10 – 13 h\, MESZ) – German (In person\, REACH\, Münster) CANCELED \n \n\n\n\nNotice:\nThe proof of 2G+ will be required from the participants to attend the physical workshops. DESCRIPTION:Auf der diesjährigen Konferenz Mensch und Computer 2021 bietet der Digital Autonomy Hub einen Themenblock zur user-freundlichen Vermittlung datenschutzrelevanter Informationen an\, bei dem neben dem TrUSD auch das SIMPORT-Projekt vorgestellt wird. \nBei der Vermittlung von Datenschutz und Arten der Datenverarbeitung geht es darum\, hochkomplexe Thematiken in einer Weise zu vermitteln\, die für die breite Gesellschaft verständlich – und vor allem auch annehmbar und nutzbar sind. Oftmals findet sich eine solche Umsetzung in der Form von Dashboards wieder: Übersichtlich\, verständlich\, intuitiv. Doch wie lassen sich diese hochkomplexen Themen für Dashboards erfolgreich und zielgruppenorientiert umsetzen? Smartphones geben in der Regel diese diese Informationen standardmäßig an Apps und damit an Unternehmen weiter\, ohne den Nutzende klar und verständlich über mögliche Risiken aufzuklären und bieten zumeist keine detaillierten und intuitiven Kontrollmöglichkeiten.\n \n\nZu diesem interaktiven Workshop laden wir App-Entwickler:innen sowie weitere Stakeholder:innen rund um die Entwicklung von standortbasierten Diensten ein\, verschiedene Perspektiven zum Thema Standortdatenschutz zu diskutieren und mögliche Wege zur Verbesserung der aktuellen Praktiken bei der Einwilligung und dem Umgang mit Standortdaten zu erkunden. Was fehlt noch\, um datenschutzfreundliche standortbezogene Dienste zu entwickeln? Die Ergebnisse dieses Workshops werden in das Konzept eines Open-Source-Projekts einfließen\, das es Entwickler:innen ermöglichen soll\, auf zugängliche Weise verantwortungsvoll mit Standortdaten zu arbeiten. Das gibt letztlich den Nutzenden die Möglichkeit\, die souveräne Kontrolle über ihre Daten wiederzuerlangen. Darüber hinaus werden die gesammelten Erkenntnisse in zukünftigen Veröffentlichungen verarbeitet. Die Teilnehmenden erhalten eine Aufwandsentschädigung in Höhe von 10 € pro Stunde und im Anschluss eine Teilnahmebescheinigung. On top of that the UX of location sharing in mobile apps is currently severely lacking. Smartphones usually pass this information to apps and thus to companies by default\, without clearly informing user about possible risks in an understandable way and without providing detailed and intuitive control options.\n\nIn this interactive session\, we invite app developers as well as stakeholders surrounding the development of location based services to discuss various perspectives on location privacy and explore possible ways to improve the current practices of consent and location data handling. What is missing to develop privacy friendly location based services? The results of this workshop will contribute to the concept of an open source project that is aimed to enable developers to work responsibly with location data in an accessible way and ultimately give users the opportunity to regain sovereign control over their data. Während der Sitzung stellen wir den Einfluss von Community-Wissen\, die Rolle persönlicher Daten und innovative Implementierungen in der Datenerfassung und -verarbeitung im Hinblick auf bürgerbasierte\, partizipative Urbanisierung vor. SUMMARY:Towards a Privacy Toolkit for Location Based Apps
DESCRIPTION:Based on the location history of a mobile phone\, deep inferences can be made about a person’s life – thus posing a privacy risk that users are often not aware of. Also\, the UX of location sharing in mobile apps is currently severely lacking. In this interactive session\, we invite app developers as well as people interested in the topic of location privacy to discuss various perspectives on location privacy and explore possible ways to improve the current practices of consent and location data handling. What is missing to develop privacy friendly location based services? The results of this workshop will flow into an open source project that is aimed to enable developers to work responsibly with location data and ultimately give users the opportunity to regain sovereign control over this data.
